Description

Indian Black Marquina is a natural black marble quarried in Rajasthan, within the ancient Aravalli geological terrain of northwestern India. The region's marble-bearing formations belong to Precambrian geological systems measured in billions of years. Formed through the recrystallization of carbonate rock under heat and pressure, the material is predominantly calcium carbonate, with irregular white and grey mineral veining moving through its black ground. Rajasthan has been a significant centre of marble extraction and stoneworking for centuries, with documented marble deposits extending across Jaipur, Udaipur and the surrounding Aravalli region. Rain on the Smoke is individually cut, hollowed and hand-finished from Indian Black Marquina, retaining the distribution of veining present in each section of stone. Pattern, density and movement therefore vary naturally from vessel to vessel.
